God's Gift in Birdsong

Recognizing God
The other day I was walking outside to cut the grass. I was amazed at the many different sounds I could hear as I was taking our lawn mower out of the garage.
I could hear a train in the distance, noise from cars from a nearby busy road, someone revving up his motor cycle engine, an airplane above beginning its descent to a Chicago airport, someone arguing with another person loudly, and other lawnmowers with their engines roaring as they cut their lawns.
Then, in the midst of this chaotic clamor of unsynchronized racket, I began to hear the soft and beautiful singing of a bird. Before long, I began to hear the lovely chirping of several other birds as well. This sweet and elegant birdsong brought a sense of comfort that caused me to smile, feel a sense of peace and gratitude, and appreciate such gifts.
This reminded me of God’s presence in the world. Sometimes God does not shout over the noise of the world. Instead, He lets a bird sing...or a voice rise in beauty...and, if we are listening, even for a moment, we realize that God has been there all along and we are not alone. We rest in the comfort of His love.
Such a beautiful noise is needed more than ever in today’s chaotic life…
