Recognizing God
What kind of music do you like to listen to? I like “elevator music”, spa music, Gregorian chant, melodies without words. This kind of music helps me to relax and feel closer to God.
My wife likes to listen to the “60’s” music. My daughter likes country music. Several of my friends like to listen to praise and worship songs on the radio.
It really does not matter what your reference is. My point is music is one of God’s most beautiful gifts. Music has the power to lift our spirits, calm our fears, strengthen our faith and unite people of every age and culture.
Music is also a gift that brings healing. Music therapists work with children, veterans, people facing illnesses and those living with dementia. My mom, for example, died of Alzheimer’s disease. She could not speak much at the very end, but she always greeted those who came to see her with, “You are just too good to be true, can’t keep my eyes off of you.” (Remembering this fact now that she is long gone still makes me smile.)
As we acknowledge His many gifts today, let us thank God for this precious gift that is often taken for granted. Let every good song we sing or listen to draw us closer to our loving Lord, fill us with gratitude, and inspire us to bring His gift of peace to others.
